The Chunin Exam Stage 2: The Forest of Death
Naruto and his fellow participants arrive at Forest of Death, the site of the second exam in the Chunin Test. The exam proctor Anko explains that the latest exam will be a survival game. To begin, each team will be given one of two types of scrolls. A team must get the possession of the other type of scroll by stealing it from another team and reach the goal point at the tower with both scrolls in hand. Teams will struggle fiercely over the control of scrolls, it is expected there will even be some fatalities in this test. As the exam begins, Anko offers only one piece of advice to the participants -- "Don't Get Killed!"

Eat or be Eaten: Panic in the Forest
The second exam starts in the "Forest of Death." Naruto tells Sasuke and Sakura that he needs use the bathroom and heads into the bushes. But when Naruto returns to the team, Sasuke suddenly knocks him out. Sasuke notices that an enemy disguised himself as Naruto. Sasuke pursues the intruder but is unable to capture him. Sasuke rescues the bound Naruto and the three decide on a password in case they become split up again. Then, Naruto is once again ambushed and separated from the group. When Naruto returns, Sasuke once again recognizes that it is a fake, but this enemy has a different air. Sasuke and Sakura experience a sense of fear that they had never felt before as they face an enemy with eyes that show willingness to risk its life to take away the team's scrolls.

After receiving the report from her staff, Anko senses that Orochimaru has snuck into the examination. Anko starts a pursuit to capture Orochimaru, but even with her Special Jonin skills, she is unable to stop the intruder. While these events unfolded, Lee, who has a crush on Sakura, is effectively navigating through the exam with his team. Sakura's exhaustion reaches a peak following the battle against Orochimaru by staying up all night to care for the injured Naruto and Sasuke. In this vulnerable condition, Orochimaru's minions led by the Sound ninja Dosu attacks the team! Despite being battle weary and her arms trembling with fear, Sakura tries to stop the enemy with her remaining power. At that moment, the self-proclaimed Leaf Village's "Handsome Devil" Rock Lee comes to the rescue! In order to defend his love Sakura, Rock goes up against the Sound ninja!!

When Naruto and his team open the two scrolls after reaching the tower, Iruka suddenly appears. Iruka notifies the three that they have passed the second exam. After hearing this news, Naruto is overwhelmed with joy, but along with the news of the passing, Iruka is here to talk about another thing. He starts lecturing on the spirit of the "Chunin" (middle rank) ninja to the students of the Ninja Academy. By now, Iruka has plenty of confidence in Naruto and his teammates as they overcame the difficult second exam. Meanwhile, Anko reports to the Hokage on the appearance of Orochimaru. Even though the Hokage learns that Orochimaru is targeting Sasuke, he decides to continue the Chunin Test. Finally, the twenty-one qualifiers of the second exam are decided.

The preliminaries of the third exam are one on one combat, and the first match is between Sasuke and Orochimaru's minion, Yoroi. Attention centers on this year's number one rookie, Sasuke. However, after the fight begins, Yoroi quickly corners Sasuke. Sasuke is unable to use his powerful Sharingan because the spell on his neck reacts to the heightening of Chakra. As Kakashi safely releases Sasuke from the spell, Orochimaru shows up from behind. Orochimaru expresses his desire for the power of Sharingan that the Uchiha clan holds in order to fulfill his ambitions. Meanwhile, in the third exam preliminaries, Hidden Sound Village's Genin (low rank ninja), Zaku, whose arm was broken by Sasuke, fights against Hidden Leaf Village's Genin (low rank ninja) Shino. In this battle, it seems as if Shino, who controls the large number of Parastic Insects that eats Chakra, has the advantage. But Zaku is hiding the fact that he could actually use both arms!

Lee's Hidden Strength: Forbidden Secret Jutsu!
Lee uses the banned technique Primary Lotus to attack Ghaara. It appears as if the match is over, but the move only damages the shell made by Gaara's sand. Unable to move after using Renge, Lee is simply thrown around by Gaara. Although Lee faces imminent defeat, he receives support from his mentor Guy. In order to win the match, Lee unleashes a move even more forbidden than Primary Lotus: Hidden Lotus.

The Fifth Gate: A Splendid Ninja is Born
Lee decides to use the forbidden move, Hidden Lotus, as a last resort. Unlike Primary Lotus, which releases one of the eight gates that have concentration of Chakra holes, Hidden Lotus opens three or more gates. When all eight gates are open, it could even lead to the death of the user, and this is why it is considered such a dangerous move. Lee puts his life on the line as he opens up five gates that allow him to attack Gaara with ultra high-speed Taijutsu (physical Art). But Gaara answers back with his own vicious attack of Sand Coffin. Lee loses consciousness, but in order to show his pride as a Ninja, he tries to get back on his feet again...
